Nishimura & Asahi wins TrustLaw Innovation Award for its pro bono work

Nishimura & Asahi won the TrustLaw Innovation Award at the TrustLaw Awards 2020, held virtually on November 5, 2020.

Nishimura & Asahi was recognized for the pro bono project it undertook for Mobile Seat Otters (MSO), a non-profit organization that seeks to restore deteriorating kelp forests along Japan’s coastline. Partner Takeshi Nemoto and his team advised MSO on the legal aspects of recruiting volunteer divers to remove excess sea urchins, which denude kelp forests, leading to the depletion of marine life.

TrustLaw is the corporate foundation of Thomson Reuters Foundation, London, UK. Its annual awards celebrate remarkable pro bono projects undertaken by legal teams for NGOs and social enterprises across the globe.

Takeshi said “Nishimura & Asahi is committed to pro bono. It was a privilege just to contribute our legal expertise to such a worthwhile cause, and to win the TrustLaw Innovation Award is an immense honor.”
