Nishimura & Asahi Tokyo Office is seeking legal editors

Nishimura & Asahi seeks applicants for the position of English-language legal editor at its Tokyo office. Applicants must be native English speakers with excellent writing skills, in addition to holding a law degree (JD/LLB). Preference will be given to candidates with editing and/or legal experience, especially those who have practiced as lawyers. This is a full-time position, with working days of Monday to Friday.

Corporate Lawyer

We are seeking a motivated lawyer with experience in Corporate and Commercial law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commercial contract drafting, reviewing and negotiation;
  • Providing legal advice on various issues in terms of finance, corporate and commercial, as well as other business-related issues;
  • Drafting, reviewing and advising on corporate-related documents in line with the diversity of client’s businesses;
  • Legal Due Diligence;
  • Legal Compliance;
  • Operating Licenses required for business entities, including but not limited to Foreign Business Licenses, BOI Licenses and any related issues concerning foreign-owned entities;
  • Researching and preparing legal advice on various legal issues in terms of business, corporate and commercial, such as anti-competition law, consumer protection law, unfair contract law, digital assets, cryptocurrencies, issues regarding finance and business transaction as may be required from time to time;
  • Able to supervise / manage projects concerning contract drafting and any related work, from time to time;
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by Partners or senior lawyers.

Qualifications:

  • LL.B. in Thailand with good knowledge of law required
  • LL.M. (Thailand or Overseas) with good knowledge of law required
  • Possess a lawyer license
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to handle cases independently with minimum supervision as well as work in a team
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Good command of written and spoken English

IP Lawyer

We are seeking a motivated lawyer with experience in Intellectual Property, especially trademark; some knowledge and experience in copyright, patent, IP litigation and IT-related matters would be advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handling, managing and supervising all procedural details of trademark prosecutions in Thailand, including managing trademark portfolios, monitoring trademark prosecution processes, handling filing instructions, office actions, appeals, oppositions, cancellations, other potential conflicts, and similar prosecution matters.
  • Providing legal advice on trademark, copyright and other IP and IT-related issues;
  • Drafting, reviewing and advising on trademark and other IP and IT-related agreements or other contractual documents, e.g. licensing, assignment, and franchising agreements;
  • Advising clients on trademark and copyright protection and enforcement;
  • Assisting and working together with the litigation team on IP cases at both the pre-court and court level;
  • Researching and preparing legal advice on other relevant law, such as advertising law, anti-competition law, data protection law, digital law and others, as may be required from time to time;
  • Performing other tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Law
  • Possess a lawyer license
  • The candidate should have at least 3 years of IP experience in a law firm
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Ability to handle cases independently and as a team
  • Willing to learn and take on new responsibilities

Litigation Lawyer

We are seeking a motivated and experienced litigation lawyer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising clients and conducting legal research;
  • Preparing and reviewing legal documents and exhibits ahead of court hearings;
  • Conducting initial case investigation, include locating witnesses, taking witness statements, gathering documents, examining evidence, interviewing clients, and investigating the facts leading to disputes;
  • Drafting and completing legal documents and exhibits to initiate or defend lawsuits;
  • Developing litigation strategies and discovery techniques;
  • Negotiating with opposing parties and taking part in mediation or settlement conferences;
  • Presenting oral and/or written arguments in court;
  • Examining and cross-examining witnesses;
  • Managing lawyer-client relationships and client expectations;
  • Updating and consulting with Partners or senior associates;
  • Supervising junior associates or legal assistants from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • LL.B. in Thailand with excellent academic record
  • LL.M. (Thailand or overseas) with excellent academic record
  • Possess a lawyer license
  • 5 years or more of working experiences in litigation field
  • Good knowledge of law and legal procedure
  • Good communication and advocacy skills, orally and in writing, in Thai and English 
  • Ability to handle cases independently and with minimum supervision; as well as working as part of a team
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Highly adaptable to client’s expectations and changes in circumstances
  • Experience in dealing with the relevant government authorities

About N&A Bangkok

In July 2013, N&A established an overseas office in Bangkok, Thailand to serve the needs of Japanese companies in expanding their businesses into Thailand and Southeast Asian markets. We focus on providing a wide range of legal services with our local knowledge and depth of experience in Thailand as well as the regional and global expertise to our clients, regardless of whether a matter involves international clients looking to invest in Thailand and Thai clients seeking opportunities in Thailand and abroad.

Our Bangkok Office fosters close-knitted relationships among our team members, and offers our interns the opportunity to gain hands-on experience from working closely with our lawyers and partners in various legal areas, including banking & finance, capital markets, corporate M&A, dispute resolution, general corporate, intellectual property, labor, projects & energy, real estate, tax, TMT and venture capital/private equity.
