Lars Markert (admitted in Germany and New York) joined the firm in April 2018.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Lars Markert (admitted in Germany and New York) will join Nishimura & Asahi as foreign law counsel* in April 2018. He will take on the status of foreign law partner* after admission as a registered foreign lawyer (Gaikokuho-Jimu-Bengoshi).
Lars was admitted to practice in Germany in 2004 and in New York in 2007. He has previously worked at international and national law firms in Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, New York and Tokyo - including a two-year secondment to Nishimura & Asahi. In his role he has advised German, Asian and other large corporations as well as states in international commercial and investment arbitrations, complex litigations and internal investigations.
In his most recent position as an associated partner for a leading German law firm he developed a particular expertise of representing Japanese corporations in their business dealings in Europe.
Lars holds a maitrise en droit (Aix-Marseille University), an LL.M. (Georgetown), and a Ph.D. (Cologne) and serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Cologne. He frequently publishes and speaks on issues of commercial and investment arbitration and has been recognized in legal directories.
Lars is expected to make a significant contribution to our firm in a broad range of areas using his considerable knowledge and experience in international arbitration, and particularly in investor-state disputes.
