Katsumi Yamamoto joins Nishimura & Asahi
We are pleased to announce that Katsumi Yamamoto has joined Nishimura & Asahi as an Advisor.
While a student at Kyoto University Faculty of Law, Katsumi Yamamoto passed the bar examination and then went on to complete his legal apprenticeship at the Legal Training and Research Institute of the Ministry of Justice (36th term). Immediately after completing his legal training and being admitted to the bar, he joined the Faculty of Law and Graduate School of Law of Kyoto University, where for 39 years as an assistant professor and then professor, he was engaged in teaching and researching civil procedural law, including bankruptcy law, and served as secretary and temporary member of numerous subcommittees of the Legislative Council in the field of civil procedural law and its adjacent fields, and participated in legislative work. As a secretary and temporary member of various subcommittees of the Legislative Council and secretary and member of the Advisory Committee for the Enactment of Civil Rules of the Supreme Court, he was also involved in drafting various laws and related Supreme Court rules, including the Civil Procedure Law, Civil Execution Law, Civil Preservation Law, Bankruptcy Law, Civil Rehabilitation Law, Corporate Rehabilitation Law, Corporate Law (Special Liquidation), and Civil Code (Inheritance Law). He has also served as a member of the Judicial Examination Review Committee, a member of the Access to Justice Study Group of the Headquarters for Justice System Reform, Chairman of the Kyoto Prefectural Council on Information Disclosure and Personal Information Protection, Chairman of the Kyoto City Consumer Affairs Council, and as a member of the Kyoto Family Court Domestic Relations Mediation Committee, and is currently a professor at the newly established Faculty of Law of Otemon Gakuin University.
Katsumi Yamamoto will draw on his extensive experience and expertise to advise Nishimura & Asahi on a wide range of issues. We are certain that he will be a valuable addition to our firm.
Profile of Katsumi Yamamoto
During my studies at Kyoto University Faculty of Law, I passed the bar exam and then went on to complete my legal apprenticeship at the Legal Training and Research Institute of the Ministry of Justice (36th term). Immediately after completing my legal training and being admitted to the bar, I joined the Faculty of Law of Kyoto University, where I subsequently served as an assistant professor and then professor for 39 years, teaching and researching civil procedural law, including bankruptcy law. During my tenure, I was also involved in the administration and management of the university, serving as Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dean of the Graduate School of Law, and Vice President (in charge of Legal Affairs and Compliance). In March 2023, I retired from Kyoto University, and in April of the same year, became a professor at the newly established Faculty of Law of Otemon Gakuin University. At the same time, as secretary and temporary member of various subcommittees of the Legislative Council and secretary and member of the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Civil Rules and Regulations, I had the opportunity to be involved in drafting various laws and related Supreme Court rules, including the Civil Procedure Law, Civil Execution Law, Civil Preservation Law, Bankruptcy Law, Civil Rehabilitation Law, Corporate Rehabilitation Law, Corporate Law (Special Liquidation), and Civil Law (Inheritance Law). In addition, I served the national and local governments as a member of the Judicial Examination Review Committee, a member of the Access to Justice Study Group of the Headquarters for Justice System Reform, Chairman of the Kyoto Prefectural Council on Information Disclosure and Personal Information Protection, Chairman of the Kyoto City Consumer Affairs Council, and as a member of the Kyoto Family Court Domestic Relations Mediation Committee. With this experience, I hope to contribute to the legal services provided by the firm, mainly focusing on civil procedural law.
