Handling Breaches of Antitrust Laws & Competition Law Overseas

We support both foreign companies and Japanese companies faced with cartel investigations by competition authorities in Japan or overseas, in close cooperation with leading foreign law firms for global cartel cases.
Many of our lawyers have experience working at U.S. and EU law firms that have top-tier antitrust and competition practices, and we have built a strong global network with leading foreign law firms. Making use of those resources, we are able to effectively assist both Japanese and foreign clients facing cartel investigations and the other enforcement actions by foreign competition authorities, including those of emerging economies, in close cooperation with leading foreign law firms. We advise on all phases of such enforcement actions: formulating response strategies, collecting and examining factual evidence, and negotiating with the relevant authorities. Our experience in handling cases initiated by authorities in emerging economies include those of China, Korea, Singapore, India, several South American countries, and South Africa.
Our practice also covers dealing with US DOJ investigations in Japan that utilize the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty between the United States and Japan and handling extradition-related matters.
