Rules for the development of automated driving

Currently, in Japan, many corporations are conducting demonstrations of automated driving vehicles and automated driving services, and public discussion on the development of rules automated driving on public roads are also underway.  As part of the rule development efforts, the Japanese government will amend the Road Transport Vehicle Act and the Road Traffic Act.  This article outlines the main points of the two amendments, as well as discussing the apportionment of liability for damages in the case of an accident involving an automated driving vehicle in Japan.
