Survey on Responsible Business Conduct and Respect for Human Rights in Southeast Asia

Tokyo and Yangon partner Yusuke Yukawa, Singapore partner Yuji Senda, Bangkok associate Jumpei Nagaoka, Singapore associate Yukari Murabayashi, and Tokyo associate Asahi Tokiwai, authored a research report titled "Survey on Responsible Business Conduct and Respect for Human Rights in Southeast Asia." It was commissioned by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and JETRO SINGAPORE.

湯川 雄介

Yusuke YUKAWA

With a strong background in commercial transactions and corporate governance and compliance, Yusuke focuses on business and human rights, advising companies on various related issues, including the formulation of human rights norms, human rights due diligence, stakeholder engagement, the formulation of human rights clauses in contracts, compliance with modern slavery laws, and consulting on transactions with countries with human rights issues. He is a core member of the Business and Human Rights Projects Team of the Committee on International Human Rights within the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and spreads awareness of the field through lectures at universities and law schools, and by contributing to various publications and seminars. He currently serves as the representative of the firm’s Yangon office providing wide-ranging legal advice to international investors and companies investing and doing business in Myanmar. In addition, Yusuke is involved in a broad range of lawmaking activities in Myanmar to bring their laws into alignment with international standards and norms, and was the first foreign member of the Myanmar Association of Insolvency Practitioners.

Yuji SENDA

Yuji has been practicing in Singapore for more than ten years, since he was seconded to the Singapore branch of a Japanese financial institution. He advises Japanese financial institutions and regional headquarters of multinational corporations in Singapore and start-up companies on cross-border transactions inside and outside of South East Asia. With finance knowledge and experience, he handles a wide range of matters, including general corporate, business alliances, equity investment, finance transactions, joint ventures, startup investment, fund formation such as variable capital companies (VCC) and family offices, real estate investment, personal data, compliance and cross-border disputes. He graduated from a business school in the UK and provides flexible and creative solutions to his clients from a multifaceted point of view.

Based on his experience at Denmark’s national human rights institution, and hands-on practice in Southeast Asia as a commercial lawyer dealing with supply chain legal issues, Jumpei can provide practical advice on human rights due diligence in relation to not only your own operations but also to the entire value chain for your products or services, in accordance with applicable international standards.
