– Philippines: Legal Framework for Anti-Bribery Law and Risks Inherent in Interactions with Government Agencies

The Philippines is one of the largest economies in Southeast Asia and an important market for Japanese and other non-Philippine multinational companies. Operations are supported by a large domestic market, a young workforce, and strong ties with international investors. However, the risks of bribery and corruption in the Philippines remain significant concerns. According to the 2025 edition of the Corruption Perceptions Index (published annually by Transparency International), the Philippines ranked 120th out of 182 countries, a decline from its 114th-place ranking in 2024.
